How To Style A Sports Bra

When someone mentions wearing a sports bra, you might automatically assume it’s for  sporting purposes, whether that be for a session in the gym or outdoor events such as marathons and football matches. However, things have slowly begun to change, and with the rise of ‘athleisure’, sports bras can be more than just a workout bra. In this blog, we will be addressing the much-asked question – ‘How to style a sports bra for everyday wear’. So, take a seat, grab a cuppa (or protein shake, whichever your preference) and continue reading to find out how you can style your favourite sports bra!

How To Wear A Sports Bra As A Top

Sticking with the traditional wearing of sports bras in the gym, many women like to wear tops over their sports bras. For some, this is a question of modesty; for others, it’s a way of keeping warm during winter workouts. With that said, sports bras are versatile and function perfectly as workout tops in their own right - so if you want to rock your workout in a sports bra and shorts or leggings, you’re in great company.

Outside of the gym, the underwear as outerwear trend is very much here to stay, and this applies to your sports bras just like any other bra. In our modern world, sports bras now have some unique and stylish designs which can make them perfect for wearing with jeans, skirts or shorts for a more everyday style.

Think of it as similar to wearing a bralette as a top - you’re just picking a sportier design. Pair your favourite sports bra with a throw-over jacket or open shirt and you have the recipe for a perfect, put-together, casual look. If you prefer a loungewear style, then joggers and a sports bra with a zip-up jumper is a cute  but laid-back look which is ideal for a comfy and cosy lounging session.

Can I Wear A Sports Bra Under A T-Shirt?

If you’ve ever worn regular clothes over your sporting gear to travel to or from your workout - whether that’s at the gym or an outdoor event, then you’ll know that sports bras can do the job of an everyday bra pretty well. You might then be wondering whether it’s a good idea to wear a sports bra in your everyday life, not just when you work out.

Of course, you can! As long as you ensure the right support level is chosen and you’re comfortable wearing your sports bra all day, you can do just that.

Just remember that form-fitting clothing could highlight some of the features of a  sports bra more than a regular bra. For example, if your sports bra has a zip fastening or thicker padded straps, these might show up more under certain tops than a T-shirt bra. For this reason, we always recommend trying outfits on with your sports bra of choice to ensure you get the desired look!

It’s also worth noting that some sports bras may alter the perceived shape of your chest. Sports bras that are designed to compress your bust and reduce movement often give your chest a less defined shape. On the other hand, some sports bras are specially designed with separate cups to maintain a defined bust, so it all depends on the sports bra you choose.

Personal preference plays a huge part in deciding whether wearing sports bras as everyday wear is right for you. Ultimately, you as the wearer are the only ones who can make that final decision. As long as you’re comfortable, supported and confident, then that is all that matters. Wear your sports bras with pride, ladies, under T-shirts, as tops, in the gym or walking down the street on holiday. Whatever the occasion!
