When purchasing l lingerie, no matter the cost, you want to buy quality lingerie that will last you many years to come. So, if you're wondering whether you can put your bra in the washing machine, continue reading this blog for all the information you will need to take good, quality care of your much-loved lingerie.

First of all, it's important to understand that bras are delicate items and need to be carefully inspected for any washing instructions that might be on the labels. All bras are different. Depending on the fabric and design, the washing and care instructions can differ from one bra to another, that's why it's vital you always check the wash label before doing anything. Once you've read and understood your care label, be sure to check your washing machine (if the bra is machine washable) for a delicate wash setting, as this is usually the best setting for washing delicate items like a bra.

Bras in the washing machine

Of course, if you've invested in premium, luxury, and expensive lingerie we highly recommend following wash labels to ensure the quality obtains. But, if you want to wash your everyday bras in the washing machine for ease and quickness, follow these steps to make sure you're getting it right and taking care of them correctly!

Rule number 1, only wash your bras with other bras. You don't want your hook and eye fastening clinging on to your clothes and potentially ruin the chance to fasten your bra back up once washed. Another valid point to wash your bras with just bras is to minimise the chance of your bras becoming tangled in clothes, potentially ruining both your clothes and bra. Next, be sure to invest in a good mesh bag to place your bras inside for their delicate wash cycle. The mesh bag will help prevent your bras from becoming tangled up in one another. Another thing to be sure of before washing your bras in the washing machine is to put them on a delicate wash, a lot of washing machines offer delicates cycles that use cool water to wash, reducing any heat damage to foam or elastic.

Hand wash bra

If your bra label states that its hand wash only, then you will need to know how to do it. Hand washing your bras is easier than you may think. The first thing is to get a large bowl with warm water. Once you have this, simply add some sensitive washing liquid. When you've added your liquid detergent, mix it around so that it combines well with the warm water creating a bubbly surface. Now that you have your solution, pop your bras in there and let them soak for 10 to 15 minutes. For particularly dirty bras, leave them to soak for about 1 hour. Once your bras have finished soaking, then rinse them out with clean, cold water. Make sure to get rid of all of the bubbles and liquid detergent. Now that your bras have been hand washed, re-shape the cups the right way round and hang them out to dry, either outside or on an airer.
