What's your bra style?

A handy guide to our most popular styles

Belle31 October 2017

What’s your bra style, are you a full cup supporter or a daring plunge wearer? We’ve compiled a handy guide to the most popular bra styles, the benefits they offer and who should be wearing them. So even if you favour one style over the other maybe a quick read of our guide will direct you to a better suited style.

Full Cup

Full cup bras are great for women who want comfortable, supportive bras with full coverage. As the name suggests full cup bras cover the breast fully, providing maximum coverage and a well-rounded shape.

Best for: Women with bigger busts as full cup bras provide excellent support and can help minimise the appearance of a large bust.

Benefits: Excellent support, good for larger busts, comfortable, available in most ranges and brands.

Balcony Bra

Balcony bras are great because they are suitable for most breast shapes and sizes. If you want a bra that gives a good amount of coverage but also creates a subtle cleavage then this style is perfect.

Best for: All shapes and sizes, to wear under clothing with a low neckline and to create subtle cleavage.

Benefits: Supportive, gives the bust a good shape, can be worn under low neck clothing.

T-shirt Bra

A t-shirt bra as the name suggest is a bra which can be worn under t-shirts, typically t-shirts are tight fitting and can be slightly sheer so you need a bra which doesn’t show through and is smooth as to not reveal any lumps or bumps through your top.

Best for: All bust types and sizes

Benefits: Comfortable, usually lightweight, great to wear under tight fitting clothing.

Strapless Bra

A bra without straps or multiway straps which can be adjusted to suit your needs. Strapless bras are great to wear under a variety of clothing when you don’t want your straps to show.

Best for: low neck or strapless clothing and all bust shapes and sizes despite many bigger busted women saying they don’t feel ‘supported’ in strapless bras at Belle Lingerie we have some great options which go up to a J cup.

Benefits: great to wear under dresses or strappy tops, great support and comfort without straps.

Sports Bra

As the name suggest sports bras are worn when undertaking some form of sport. Sports bras offer varying levels of support, but generally they are full cup, underwired and have padding to ensure protection. Read our handy guide to which sports bra you should be wearing depending on the activity you are doing.

Best for: Wearing when exercising, can also be an alternative to wired bras or worn as a post-surgery bra.

Benefits: Great support for a wide range of activities, protection during movement and bounce reduction.

Plunge Bra

Plunge bras have a low centre front and angle cut cups to create lift and an enhanced cleavage. Plunge bras are perfect to wear underneath low-cut tops and dresses.

Best for: All bust shapes and sizes as this style is generally worn to suit the type of clothing as opposed to bust shape.

Benefits: enhanced cleavage, lift and forward projection and great for low cut tops.
